Faculty and Staff
The Virginia Tech Foundation is a vital part of faculty and research support at Virginia Tech and provides funding for these programs through endowments. The foundation also owns property throughout the Commonwealth and the world that enables the university to expand its graduate offerings, develop collaborations with a variety of organizations, and support a wide variety of research projects. The Virginia Tech Corporate Research Center in Blacksburg, Virginia is representative of our support to research as is the Steger Center for International Scholarship in Riva San Vitale Switzerland which bolsters our faculty and student support on a global scale.
The Virginia Tech Foundation has a profound influence on academics at Virginia Tech. In part that is because a large percentage of the endowment is dedicated to scholarship support. Each scholarship provides a student with funding that can mean achieving academic goals and having a broader collegiate experience than might otherwise be possible. Complementing scholarship funding, the foundation also offers student internships in information technology, accounting, real estate sales and management, legal research, and investment and financial planning. Other successful student programs made possible by the foundation focus on student investing teams. Specifically these are the Student-managed Endowment for Educational Development (SEED), Bond and Securities Investing by Students (BASIS), and Commodity Investing by Students (COINs) programs.
Clearly, the Virginia Tech Foundation has a positive impact on the Virginia Tech campus. But the foundation also affects the region by encouraging economic development and building bridges between the university and the surrounding communities. Two great examples of our support in this area are the Hotel Roanoke and Conference Center and North End developments both of which have revitalized their respective communities and provide further ongoing support to our university.
