The Virginia Tech Foundation (VTF) has created this Privacy Statement in order to demonstrate our firm commitment to your privacy. This Privacy Statement informs you of our privacy practices and of the choices you can make about the way information about you and your online activity is collected and how that information is used. This statement is readily available on our website linked on our home page and at the bottom of every other Virginia Tech Foundation web page.

1. Scope of this Privacy Statement

This Privacy Statement applies to the public Virginia Tech Foundation website at the web address This statement does not apply to any VTF subsidiary or their respective web sites.

The Virginia Tech Foundation site may provide links to third-party websites for your convenience and information. If you access those links, you will leave the VTF site. The VTF does not control those third party sites or their privacy practices, which may differ from the VTF's practices. We do not endorse or make any representations about third-party sites. The personal data you choose to provide to or that is collected by these third parties is not covered by this Privacy Statement. 2. Collection of personal information

The Virginia Tech Foundation collects some personal information in order to provide certain services to our users.

The VTF collects personal information to provide the following services:

-The 'Gateway Journal' newsletter
-Departmental training requests
-'Contact Us' web form submissions

The types of information collected includes:

-Contact information, such as name, telephone number, and email address
-University PID

In addition to the information you provide, the VTF may also collect information during your visit to the foundations website which include cookies for session management and preventing abuse of online forms. Also, site analytic tools collect certain traffic information that your browser sends to a website, such as your browser type and language, access times, and the address of the website from which you arrived. They may also collect information about your Internet Protocol (IP) address. The foundation also uses some of these tools in connection with its newsletter and therefore may collect information about when you open the email or click on a link contained in the email.

The information the VTF collects is used to measure the overall effectiveness of our site or to satisfy a users request. This may include

-Deliver our newsletter to communicate with you about fiscal policy and news
-Respond to you regarding a general inquiry you made using our site
-Follow up on a request for training
-Help diagnose problems with our server and to administer our site.
-Monitor market penetration of various web browsers so we can better determine the internet technologies we may utilize in the design of our pages

The VTF will not sell, rent or lease your personal information to others nor will we use any personal information for any purposes beyond those stated here.

The VTF gives you the choice of receiving certain news and fiscal information in the form of a newsletter. You can make or change your choice about receiving our newsletter by following the directions outlined below. This option does not apply to communications primarily for the purpose of responding to a user-submitted inquiry.

Subscription communications

Subscription communications includes our email newsletter, the Gateway Journal, that may be expressly requested by you. After you request such communications, you may opt out of receiving them by using one of the following methods:

-Select the email "unsubscribe" link in the newsletter, or follow the instructions included in your subscription confirmation communication.
-Contact the foundation offices by one of the methods noted here.

To prevent unauthorized access or disclosure, to maintain data accuracy, and to ensure the appropriate use of the information, the VTF utilizes reasonable and appropriate physical, technical, and administrative procedures to safeguard the information we collect. The personal information you provide us is stored on computer systems located in controlled facilities which have limited access and remote access is given only to administrators of the site.
